2-pipe system as a 4-pipe solution
The Katherm HK E, at the cost of a 2-pipe unit, provides considerable savings compared to a traditional 4-pipe system in terms of the entire pipework within the floors and riser pipes, including the distribution pipes, connection piping, fittings and valves. The unit therefore conserves raw materials, material costs as well as installation and commissioning costs. By massively reducing CO2 emissions along the value chain, the use of the Katherm HK E has a positive impact on the carbon footprint of a building.
Switchable Electric Heating Coil
In addition to coil-based heating and cooling, the Katherm HK E can also heat with an integrated, continuously variable electric heating coil, an advantage especially in the transition months. The speed/output of the electric heating coil and EC fans used can be continuously variably controlled by a 0–10 V DC signal. This allows the users of the space to individually determine the room climate independently of the central “cooling” system setting and heat the room. The following functions can be realized with the Katherm HK E 2-pipe system: cooling with CHW (chilled water), heating by an integrated electric heating coil, and heating by LPHW (low pressure hot water).
Individually Made to Measure
Made-to-measure products are available for architectural styles with individual geometries. This applies to the trench and grille. Mitered corners, curved designs, corners and angles, pillar recesses and a range of different grille finishes and frame edges are available.
Connection to Building Management System
The Katherm HK can be easily integrated into common building management systems such as Modbus, BACnet, and KNX. This networking optimizes energy consumption and increases user comfort. All electrical components are pre-installed in a junction box, simplifying installation for all sizes. This networking capability ensures energy optimization of the overall operation and increases comfort.
Static Heating Requirements
Rooms that have relatively static heating requirements, such as corridors, hotel lobbies, conservatories or living rooms, are especially suitable for the use of Katherm trench systems. Energy-saving operation can be achieved and operating costs remain at a low level, thanks to the output-optimised convectors in low-temperature and heat pump operation.
Condensate Drain
Each Katherm HK unit is equipped with a condensate tray that collects condensate generated in cooling mode and safely drains it out of the trench. Condensate drains along a natural gradient or optionally by a condensate pump supplied separately or factory-fitted.

We consider the environmental impact of our products over their entire life cycle – “cradle to cradle”! The results are Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). The EPDs can be easily submitted to all common building sustainability certification systems, such as DGNB, BREEAM or LEED, and are available in the download area. The product is also registered in the DGNB Navigator building product platform.
