Located on Dún Laoghaire’s waterfront, RPS Consulting Engineers were appointed to examine the sustainability of the thirty-year old West Pier Business campus, calculate its carbon footprint and identify pathways to lower carbon.

Working with RPS Consulting Engineers, and NGS Mechanical, Keane Environmental supplied Diffusion fan coil units which were selected for their exceptionally low specific fan powers (SFPs), contributing to reduced energy consumption and improved indoor comfort. Each unit was supplied complete with Pettinaroli pre-assembled Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs), ensuring precise flow control, simplified installation, and ease of commissioning.

Sustainable HVAC Upgrade 

The units’ low specific fan powers, achieved through efficient EC motor technology and optimised coil design, deliver a significant reduction in operational energy compared to the original fan coil units which used AC motor technology, which was the best practice choice at that time. This contributes directly to improved performance and lower carbon emissions — key considerations for both client and consulting engineers.

Designed to operate at lower water temperatures, the system also future-proofs the campus for the adoption of low-carbon heating and cooling plant, including heat pump systems.

Combined with robust construction and long service life, the solution supports long-term ESG objectives while providing a technically sound and cost-effective upgrade for the prominent coastal business campus.
