Schools Retrofit Programme

Terrendis Pipework Powers

Low-Carbon Heating

for Wexford Schools

EU Funded Energy Retrofit Programme

As part of the Department of Education’s 2025 Retrofit Energy Programme, announced by Minister Norma Foley, 40 schools across Ireland are receiving critical energy and water system upgrades this summer.

Supporting this national initiative, Blanchfield Heating specified Terrendis Hyperflexible Underground Pre-Insulated Pipe for two Wexford schools, with the pipe supplied by Keane Environmental Ltd.

Smarter Infrastructure for Greener Schools

To meet tight retrofit timelines and deliver long-term energy savings, Blanchfield Heating selected Terrendis pipe for its superior thermal insulation, flexibility, and ease of installation. Keane Environmental supplied:

  • 90 metres of Terrendis pipe for St Joseph’s Ballymitty

  • 140 metres for Danescastle NS, Carrick-on-Bannow

Why Terrendis

This pre-insulated pipe played a key role in the schools’ heating and hot water system upgrades, contributing to:

  • Reduced heat loss, improving overall energy efficiency

  • Fast installation, with flexible coils ideal for underground routing around existing structures

  • Long operational life, due to its durable PE-Xa carrier pipe and closed-cell insulation

  • Improved system reliability, helping future-proof the schools’ infrastructure

Key benefits of the
Terrendis pipe range

Excellent Thermal Insulation – Closed-cell PE-X foam insulation minimizes heat loss, helping to maximise system efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

Ideal for Renewable Systems – Optimised for use with biomass boilers and air-to-water heat pumps, thanks to its low thermal conductivity and long-term stability.

Quick & Flexible Installation – Highly flexible, lightweight coils reduce the need for joints and simplify underground installation, saving time and labour.

Corrosion-Free Performance – PE-Xa carrier pipes are highly resistant to corrosion, pressure, and temperature fluctuations.

Eco-Friendly & Durable – Fully recyclable materials and a long service life contribute to a lower environmental footprint.

Supporting Ireland’s Energy Targets

The Retrofit Energy Programme is a vital step toward achieving Ireland’s climate action goals, with schools leading the way in decarbonising public sector buildings. The combination of Blanchfield Heating’s engineering expertise and Keane Environmental’s trusted supply chain ensured a smooth delivery for these time-sensitive summer works.

By specifying Terrendis pre-insulated pipe, the project partners have helped set a new standard for sustainable, efficient school infrastructure—delivering warmer classrooms, lower energy bills, and a smaller carbon footprint.
