Fernhill House Hotel
Upgrading Water Services to
Fernhill House Hotel
When Fernhill House Hotel embarked on upgrading its water services, sustainability was a key priority. Fernhill House Hotel in Clonakilty, West Cork, utilises a sustainable water system. It draws its water from an on-site well and has implemented solar panels to heat water, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
This commitment to sustainability is part of the hotel’s broader environmental efforts, including growing its own produce and sourcing food locally. With rising energy costs and a growing commitment to greener operations, the hotel required a piping solution that would deliver high performance, long-term efficiency, and minimal environmental impact.
Mechanical & Building Services selected 180 meters of Terrendis single sanitary and heating pipe, supplied by Keane Environmental, for the project. Terrendis was chosen specifically for its hyper-flexibility, advanced insulation technology and sustainable design.

Why Terrendis?
The Terrendis Sanitary Pipe range is specifically designed for the efficient underground distribution of potable hot and cold water, making it ideal for domestic hot water systems, showers, and sanitation facilities in buildings such as hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and multi-residential developments.
Each sanitary pipe consists of a flexible, cross-linked polyethylene (PE-Xa) carrier pipe that meets stringent hygiene standards for drinking water. The pipe is surrounded by a highly effective polyurethane (PUR) foam insulation and enclosed in a durable, corrugated HDPE outer jacket. This triple-layered design ensures:
- Superior Thermal Efficiency: Terrendis pipe systems are designed with low thermal conductivity, significantly reducing heat loss. This ensures hot water reaches the point of use faster and with less energy input, lowering overall energy consumption.
- Long-Term Durability: Made from cross-linked polyethylene (PEX), Terrendis pipes are corrosion-resistant and built to last. This reduces maintenance needs and extends the lifecycle of the installation—both important factors for sustainable building management.
- Low Environmental Impact: The pipe’s lightweight, flexible construction reduces transport emissions and installation time. Its insulation is CFC-free and produced with a low carbon footprint, supporting broader environmental goals.
-
Engineered for performance.
The Terrendis Pipe Range
The Terrendis range of pre-insulated underground pipe is designed for efficient underground distribution of hot and cold water.
Available in single, double and quadruple pipe configurations, the range includes options for heating, cooling, potable water, and sanitary applications.
Hyper-flexible and with low heat loss values, Terrendis pipes are ideal for district heating, healthcare facilities, residential developments, and renewable energy systems such as heat pumps.
